@Sirsquid @gamingonlinux

It's not how I wanted to end up, but Linux is only a way I run servers now, for the most part. I was very active in Linux spaces, and ran Linux on the desktop with no dual boot or gaming VM. I was die-hard.

However, there are people in the world that relish in feeling like an outcast, and they tend to lash out at all that is different. Those people also like to flock to Linux because it's full of other self-prescribed outcasts. It's created a cult of superiority in a way, and many of the members write like this on the regular.

I left Linux behind and just moved to Windows because I just don't feel like interacting with other Windows users has an abnormally high chance of being called a slur or accused of CSA like I feel with Linux users.

Linux, open for all except degenerates.

I look forward to a change, but when a high number of high profile YouTube channels are openly conservative and still think frog memes are cool, the community continues to worsen it seems.

Just watched devastated at Matt's 22 second defeat, Ryan pulled it together and survived 5 rounds to save the Supermega name.

Every fight was better than the last, just absolute wonder. Great event, great cause, great fighters.

You are not staying stupid shit, you are just autistic and the rest of the world is weird.

Happy mother's day to those on the east coast of the US for all who celebrate. I must to bed so I can wake up early and go see my own mother for celebration times.

it’s called hotel transylvania because everyone who lives there is trans

Been soooo busy the last few days. So glad to sleep and not go to work tomorrow!

wall of text; gemini protocol; nostalgia from someone in their 20s

Not something I've talked about much, but I'm a huge fan of "small web", thus why Mastodon is so great to me. I miss the days of the internet before it was entirely about startup, corporations, or enterprises. I miss the days before "personal brands" when people just made a personal site that said "Hi, I'm Joan, and here are photos of my cats" and that was a thing you could stumble into.

Basically, I'm making a gemini site, and will be posting it here when it's done. Like the TOR network, gemini requires special browsers or extensions to access, but it is a special protocol that removes all of the fluff from the web and presents simple, beautiful text. You can serve binary files separately if you really need to share images or video.

I've done it. I've found the funniest goddamned website on the internet.

Cleared 47% of our instance's drive by moving files to an object storage instance, provided to us by the wonderful and generous @esdin. This means we can now keep sharing media without killing the server!

I deleted our media files without telling any of you first because I'm evil and I like to live life in the fast lane. Also, everything is still working, no need to be alarmed, and you can all stop panicking. Or is that just me?

Okay, it's time to tell new users a secret about Mastodon.

Mastodon is (whispers) part of a much bigger network 😮

Mastodon servers use an open standard called ActivityPub to talk to each other. That's how you interact with people on other Mastodon servers.

But, dozens of other federated networks also use ActivityPub, so (this is the good bit!) you can follow people on these other networks from your Mastodon account!

For example:

PixelFed ( is a photo sharing network, here's a random example account @Iancylkowski

PeerTube ( is a video sharing network, with a p2p system that allows videos to go viral even on small servers, here's a random account @craftykat

BookWyrm ( is a social reading site, an open alternative to Amazon's Goodreads, here's a random account @mouse

Together, Mastodon and these other services form... The Fediverse :fediverse:

(whispers) Click on the link...

We lost our localization changes during the migration, will be merging those back in soon.

Woof. This article has a few decent criticisms, but most of them are couched in the false premise that Mastodon should be a purer version of Twitter. No thanks.

@lienrag It is not acceptable to not describe images of jokes. It excludes people.

This is a general problem: Abled people don't expect disabled people to participate in jokes and memes and shitposts, but we do. We don't want to be excluded from fun stuff our friends/peers are doing.

It doesn't ruin the joke to explain it; anyone who doesn't need/want to look at the description won't.

But even if it did, people matter more than jokes.

Glad to have the day to relax and take it sleazy. If relaxing and taking it sleazy means working with @esdin on 💪 😤
